Shelley Duvall, Star of "The Shining" and "3 Women," Dies at 71
Shelley Duvall, whose unconventional beauty and eccentric screen presence captivated audiences in the 1970s and early 1980s, has passed away at the age of 71.
Duvall's breakthrough role came in Robert Altman's 1975 film "Nashville," and her unforgettable performance in his 1977 drama "3 Women" earned her the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Duvall made her Hollywood debut in Robert Altman's 1970 film "Brewster McCloud." She went on to star in a string of acclaimed films, including "Thieves Like Us" (1974), "The Shining" (1980), and "Popeye" (1980).
Duvall's career took a downturn in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and she largely disappeared from the public eye. However, she gained renewed attention in recent years with the release of a 2016 documentary about her life, "The Problem with Shelley Duvall."
